Crate Training Your Dog

We firmly believe that crate training is the single most important thing you could do for your pup. It gives them a sense of independence which aids in separation anxiety and it teaches them to control their emotions. They cant get the zoomies in a crate so they are encouraged to rest. If they begin to feel feral, they must temper that emotion. This builds them a sense of control to limit their impulsivity - they will be less reactive to stimuli and their emotions meaning they are more well-rounded, calmer pups.

Beyond that, it is their bedroom. We all remember when we were young, screaming at our parents and slamming our bedroom door shut. It was our safe space where we felt comfortable. A crate is simply a bedroom for the dog. It anchors them at home, gives them a place to go if overwhelmed or upset, a place they know they will be okay.

The crate should never have negative connotations or be used for punishment - it must be a positive place that they choose to be in.

The final benefit of crate training is for your peace of mind - something invaluable if you’ve ever lost your garden or $400 pair of shoes. If you leave the house and your dog is in the crate, not only are they safe, but your house and belongings are safe.

If you want more information about crate training or how to do it, we’d love to help.
